Cinco de Mayo Margaritas
Apr 27, 2016
If you haven’t made plans for Cinco de Mayo, now’s your chance! We’ve rounded up a list of restaurants serving our favorite festive cocktail – margaritas.
An Orange County classic, Javier’s Cantina at Crystal Cove Shopping Center presents elevated Mexican cuisine in a gorgeous coastal setting where you can enjoy hand-shaken margaritas, craft cocktails and rare tequilas. The Fruto de Cactus Margarita is a must, blending together Reposado Tequila, lime juice, agave and prickly pear nectar for a sweet and tart drink.
Fashion Island’s Red O offers an impressive bar and lounge with a collection of signature margaritas and an extensive tequila list. Order the Alacran Margarita, with Sauza Hornitos Reposado Tequila, Veev Acai Spirit, JDK & Sons Orange Liqueur, house-made limonada and a zip of heat from Serrano-infused syrup.
Taco Rosa at The Market Place goes the extra mile with their margaritas by using fresh, hand-squeezed juices. The La Flaquita, or the Skinny Mama, combines organic Azunia Platinum tequila, fresh lime juice, agavero liqueur and a hint of agave nectar for a perfectly balanced marg that’s not-too-sweet.
For a spin on the classic, swing by Hopdoddy at Fashion Island for the Sangrita. A blend of gold tequila, freshly-squeezed orange and lime juices, and pomegranate grenadine, the margarita-sangria cocktail is served on the rocks with a spicy chile salt rim.
At Del Frisco’s Grille, order the Pomegranate Margarita, with Camarena Reposado Tequila, Cointreau, Pom Juice, and a splash of fresh lime sour. ($12)
All these margaritas are making us hungry! At Paul Martin’s American Grill, in addition to their Peligroso Blanco Margarita, enjoy Shrimp Campechana and Mesquire Grilled Poblano Chile Rellenos, available May 4 & 5 only. YUM.
True Food Kitchen is known for their handcrafted libations, presses and punches. Try the Cucumber-Citrus Skinny Margarita with Ixa Organic Silver Tequila, Lime, Mint and Soda, for a refreshing and light treat ($11) or the Ginger Margarita with Gran Centenario, St. Germaine, ginger, honey, and flamed orange ($12). Additional favorites include:
- Not a true margarita, but at Kona Grill (now open at Irvine Spectrum Center), we suggest you order the Pineapple Cilantro Smash: Patron Silver Tequila, lime, pineapple, monin agave nectar, and cilantro.
- Papi, Please Come to the Front: a craft cocktail from TAPS Fish House & Brewery with Blanco Tequila, grapefruit, lime, agave, and Maldon sea salt ($11)
- While our favorite cocktail at Great Maple is the GM Honey Mule simply because it comes in a bear-shaped mason jar, for Cinco de Mayo, we’ll choose the Tipsy “Topsy’s” Tequila Cocktail with organic Casa Noble Silver Tequila, muddled serrano pepper and cucumbers, St. Germaine, citrus, organic, and agave. ($11) It’s spicy and we love it!
