Halloween Dare: The 17th Door

This Halloween, head to The Market Place in Tustin and Irvine for everything from festive party decorations at Party City to the season’s most popular getups at Costume Castle. And then prepare to have the fright of your life.

New this year to the center is The 17th Door, a twisted, nightmarish haunted house attraction dreamed up by Tustin couple Robbie and Heather Luther.

The Los Angeles Times recently called it “Southern California’s most anticipated haunted experiences of the Halloween season” and “the most innovative haunted experience … ever seen.”

The 17th Door - Waiver Sign

The 30-minute experience takes guests through 17 rooms of intense, in-your-face horror. Each of the rooms provide an interactive, controlled experience that lasts one-minute. Guests must sign a liability waiver to enter.

“Depending on the room, guests may be touched or grabbed by our cast members and they may also get wet,” said Luther. “We wanted it to be a fully immersive experience that touches upon all the senses.”

As the OC Register cited, “The safe word is ‘mercy’ … that’s the first rule to remember while visiting 17th Door.” Indeed, guests may use the safe word to leave the haunted house at any time.

  • The 17th Door will be open from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 7 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. For Friday Oct.30 and Saturday, Oct.31, hours will be 6 p.m. to midnight.
