Skirting the issue

We are enamored with skirt styles for fall. Midi-skirts. Asymmetrical hem skirts. Wrap skirts. Pencil skirts. Dear Fashion Gods, please don’t kill the crop top trend too soon, because we love pairing those with the aforementioned! We don’t necessarily mean the midriff-baring crop top, we mean the boxy ones that are somehow super versatile and flattering with almost everything. Here are some of our favorites right now …

Black and white always makes for a perfect pairing but we love the asymmetrical hem on these skirts. Left: Zippered pencil skirt by Trouve ($78), available at Nordstrom; right: striped faux-wrap skirt by A.L.C. ($375), available at Nordstrom.

This is where it’s OK to be matchy-matchy; the crop top and skirt in matching prints and colors go well together because the effect makes you think you’re wearing a structured but flattering dress, as evidenced by the cobalt blue ‘Ariana’ skirt ($258) and ‘Alouette’ top ($238) from TRINA TURK. We also love the cropped ‘Marlie’ sweater layered over a collared button down with the cool honeycomb mod print ‘Darcelle’ skirt ($198). The cropped and striped ‘Alfie’ top looks casual but charming with the ‘Allie’ midi-skirt ($238), all available at TRINA TURK at Fashion Island.

We absolutely LOVE these pieces from BCBGMAXAZRIA at Fashion Island – they’re from the runway collection, so they’re a little pricier but well-worth it. Think of all the mixing and matching and how many different outfits you could create with just these 6-pieces alone!

Add some punch to your look with a great graphic print or pop of color, like this windowpane print pencil skirt ($70) or this red A-line skirt ($60; add a cropped black blazer to finish the look!), both from Express at Fashion Island.
